Applications now open for the first International Plasma Physics Summer School in Quy Nhon - VIETNAM - 1-6 July, 2019
Plasma physics is essential to understanding a huge variety of phenomena, occurring both in nature and in man-made devices. It also provides the theoritical fundation for a wide range of key industrial applications. The recent development of new laboratory facilities and large experimental infrastructures is enabling unprecedented extreme plasma conditions to be achieved, opening the door to unexplored phenomena which will stimulate fundamental research. However, since the field of plasma science is particularly broad, its study is scattered across many different disciplines, from astrophysics to fundamental plasma physics and industrial plasmas.
Each year since 2013, the Laboratory of Excellence (Labex) PLAS@PAR organizes summer schools in France. 25 students from France, Europe and abroad come together to Banyuls or to Roscoff and discover together the diversity of plasmas. This year, PLAS@PAR inaugurates an international summer school in Vietnam to reach new students from Asia and Oceania.
The main objective is to introduce plasma physics in any state from Laboratory, to the distant universe. The school will select motivated students with a good background in physics or applied mathematics, to introduce them to the diversity of plasma physics. Hence the training covers various aspects of plasmas: astrophysical and natural plasmas, laboratory plasmas generated by lasers, electrical devices, ion beams, and also cold plasmas for industrial applications etc.
PLAS@PAR welcomes worldwide students holding a Bachelor's degree, studying to complete a Master's degree or even a PhD. Students should hold a degree that may include Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics (or a certified equivalent amount of learning in the same field, quantified as 3 years of previous studies corresponding to at least 180 credits in the European Credit Transfer System).
